Magic of Persia Calling

The third edition of the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize (MOP CAP), the most established global platform for the development of emerging Iranian artists, has announced submissions for applications are now open.

The prize, which is awarded to one lucky winner, is aimed at providing talented individuals, based in Iran or outside, with international exposure, and thus promoting Iranian art on a wider scale.

Shirley ElGhanian, the woman behind the initiative and founder of Magic of Persia, non-profit UK-based charity under which MOP CAP operates, explains that there are limited opportunities for Iranian artists to showcase their works and gain international recognition. ‘The majority of the young artists who apply for MOP CAP are living in Iran, and have so much to express to the world at large through the different media that they work in. The award is meant to spark a cross-cultural dialogue and open doors for a wider appreciation of art.’

The winner will be presented with the opportunity to work closely with a London-based curator for a period of a year as well as showcase a solo exhibition. A three-month residency at the Delfina Foundation in London is also in the pipeline.

*Deadline for submissions is 31st July, 2012. For more information, visit www.mopcap.com
